MIA

So I have received a lot of very sweet messages asking about my whereabouts.  Some wanted to know if I was okay, some wanted to know if I fell off the wagon, and some wanted to know if I fell off the Earth.

I’m still here y’all!  Sundays are blog days.  I write all my blog posts on Sunday and schedule them to post during the week.  I’ve been working a lot of Sundays lately, and the ones I haven’t have been filled with Birthdays and other special occasions.

It is also my meal prep day, so when I work or am busy that day something has to give – and unfortunately my choice has to be the blog, because if I don’t meal prep this weight is going to come back with a vengeance.  This much I know.

The good news is that my schedule is going to be clearing up sooner rather than later, so this little blog of mine will be going full force again very soon!

I’ve also been putting a lot of time into figuring out this whole Freestyle deal, and I’ll admit it has been an uphill battle.  Technically I at this moment I have not gained, but I have been going back and forth, much more than I did with just Smartpoints.

One thing I do know is that WW knows what they are doing.  I’ve had to give in to that point a long time ago to be so successful.

Some thoughts about Freestyle so far:

Freedom is wonderful, if you can handle it.  I found myself for the first time in almost a year not tracking, because I wouldn’t use any Smartpoints for Breakfast and Lunch so I’d just shrug and think “Oh I have plenty” and wouldn’t track.

Nope.  So not a good idea, and it was really scary how quickly I could fall back into old patterns.  Truth of the matter is I HAVE TO TRACK or I gain.

Zero Smartpoint food can be awesome, but I found I was eating things that I wouldn’t eat before to have those zero point meals.  I mean I don’t like a lot of fish, and one can not live by chicken and turkey alone.  I needed desperately to incorporate some of the pointy meat like Pork and Beef back into my diet so that I wouldn’t die of boredom.

So with all those zero point foods I found I had tons left for snacky type stuff.  Stuff that I wasn’t eating before.  Stuff that I didn’t even want, but hey!  I had the points left!

Bad bad bad idea.

I’ve reined it in.  I’ve refocused, and reexamined how I eat and how I do this program.  I didn’t feel like I was on a diet before, but with Freestyle I was starting to feel that way.

I actually took a stroll though my App and some of the days BF (Before Freestyle).  Interestingly enough a lot of those days I didn’t even come close to my new Smartpoint bank of 25.

Like most of them.  I actually really dig healthy food, so I found that a lot of what I was eating before was zero Smartpoints.  I just didn’t have a ton of extra points to spend on junk since my chicken, turkey, and fish all counted.

So I really need to listen to my body and not eat for the sake of eating because I have Smartpoints left.

If I’m going to be totally honest here, I do believe WW will be changing this program faster than any other they have, because I do think it will be harder on new people or people still losing.

Time will tell.

  1. I’ve been struggling as well. I too didn’t feel
I was on a diet, but for some reason Freestyle feels
Like dieting. I had my go to meals for breakfast, lunch, dinner and for restaurants, now I don’t seem to have enough points. I am thankful for your thoughts and look forward to hearing how you work things out. Janeen

  2. Agree with your observation about Freestyle. At first I liked it, but it’s been my undoing and I haven’t lost any weight in about 2 months – just keep gaining and losing the same 4 pounds, whereas with Smart Points I was losing every week. It’s hard to get back on track. I hope they change it back soon.

  3. Your article came at the right time. I joined in January and have 10-15 pounds to lose. I’ve been working the program up to this week. I’ve only lost 4 pounds since January 15 and am feeling discouraged. On Sunday I became sick, but not my appetite! I’m eating everything in sight. I liked your observation about using up extra points just because you have them. I started snacking at night, using the points and dipping into weeklies. Hopefully I recognized my problem and can get back on track. Today was a better day! Thanks for sharing your insights.

  4. Yay! You are back! I get totally what you are saying about Freestyle. I could not wrap my head around it at all. I actually counted calories (one day I ate almost 2000!) and even went back to SmartPoints. I have finally come to peace with it as like you, I found that if I just ate like I always had on SP, it would work out with my Freestyle points and it has. Tracking both programs together really helped me “see” what was going on. Now I am only tracking FreeStyle and staying on track while rolling over some points here and there to enjoy on Saturdays after weigh in.

    Welcome back!
