Hard to Hear

So something I haven’t shared here is that I have written my first novel.  Much like getting to my goal weight, it was something I didn’t think I’d ever be able to accomplish.  It’s amazing when you do accomplish something you didn’t think you could do:  All of a sudden all those other things you didn’t think you’d be able to do suddenly don’t seem so daunting.

I figured if I could drop that weight and get to an actual healthy weight, I could write a book.

I was right.

It is part of the reason why my blog has suffered, along with the 80 hour work weeks.  Truth be told it was sent to my editor at the end of the summer, and I’ve been doing re-writes.

Upon first reading the notes from my editor I didn’t agree with a lot of what she said.  It was like someone was telling me my baby was ugly.  I mean, I know these characters better than anybody.  I know their motivations and their inner feelings.

This ties in so closely with my weight loss, and I didn’t actually get to my goal until I stopped with the I know better than WW (or insert your diet plan of choice here).

Before when I joined WW (and I did that A LOT in the past) there would always been something that I was convinced was wrong.  Why should I count coffee creamer?  How can olive oil be that high in points?  I’ve had a cheat day in the past and still lost weight so I can do it now.

You get the picture.  I was constantly tweaking the program, and eventually all those little tweaks get in the way of your success.  It wasn’t until I did what they told me to do that got me to goal.

Since that worked so well with my weight loss I decided to give it a try and have an open mind with the editing of my book.  Low and behold it is leaps and bounds better than the first draft.

Sometimes we just need to shut up and listen.

Aside from writing this blog, I have a new novel out.  Going Home is a book about second chances, set in a holiday obsessed town.  If you like Hallmark movies, you’ll love this book!
