Weigh In 8-7-17 – It’s Not Me It’s You

Comments 2 Standard

So I’m done with my temper tantrum from last week and was down a pound.  That means one more to go!  It’s still just weird to think about not thinking about losing weight.

I mean I’ll always have to be mindful of what I’m putting in my mouth and I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I will always need to track my food unless I want to go back up 70+ pounds.  Yes as the title in my blog states I am a serial Weight Watcher and if you go from my very first (and highest) weight with Weight Watchers I’ve lost 79 pounds.

You do what works and that’s what works for me.

It’s funny when you lose a lot of weight.  You get a lot of compliments of course and there are also a lot of things that can derail you if you let them.

When you are overweight you get treated a lot differently than when you are not.  You are almost invisible when you are an overweight woman (and maybe man, sorry guys I can’t speak for you), and when all of a sudden you are not it can make you almost uncomfortable or have negative thoughts.

Like the other day – I was at the gas station and this young man jogged past me to open the door for me.  It was a very nice gesture and I said thank you, but those thoughts entered my mind – he wouldn’t have done that 60 pounds ago.

This particular person very well could have, but in my experience that’s not the case.  You can let things like that bother you, or you can just accept the nice gesture.

Having those thoughts or negative feelings will not change the way people are treated one way or the other.  I had a revelation a few months ago, and it has totally changed the way I think of myself, other women, and how we treat each other.

1/2 cup 2% Kraft Mozzarella Cheese: 5 Smartpoints
1/4 cup Wildtree Pizza Sauce:  0 Smartpoints
Green Peppers, Onions, Broccoli and Cauliflower: 0 Smartpoints

Food Find – Garden Style

So all my veggies are coming in something fierce right now.  In a week or two I should be posting my recipe for an awesome marinara type sauce that it out of this world!

All the fresh picked right from my yard get me in salad mode.  It’s so delicious and good for you, and it has the added benefit that I know what was and was not used on the veggies.

No pesticides in my garden, thank you very much.

Salads are mostly full of foods that have 0 Smartpoints, so they are a no-brainer, right?

Wrong.

Salad dressings and topping can kill you.

7 croutons can come out to 4 Smartpoints if you aren’t careful.

Now there are times that I splurge on my salad toppings and dressings.  That’s the beautiful thing about Weight Watchers.  It’s all about balance.

Will I have croutons and nuts and full fat dressing every day?  No.  Will I have it once in awhile?  Definitely!

So when I am in point savings mode here are some of the things I like to use on my salad.

cil

Trader Joe’s Cilantro Salad Dressing is Ahhhmazing.  I almost like this better than full fat dressings!  It has such a delicious flavor that you will find yourself using it in your regular cooking or on a sandwich too!

bolt

Bolthouse Farms has a line of reduced fat dressing.  I don’t care for their vinaigrette dressings, but these two yogurt based dressings are decent.  I won’t say it has magical properties that will make you forget about a good full fat blue cheese or ranch dressing, but it is pretty good and good for you.  They also make a great marinade.

Weigh in 7-29-17 – Oh Bloody Hell

Comments 2 Standard

Grrrr…

I was angry, oh yes, ANGRY.

You see I thought I was two pounds from my goal weight.  Well, 2.6 pounds.  I thought I might have it.  I thought when I stepped on that scale I might hear them shout goal and confetti would come out of the sky and Oprah would give me the keys to a new car.

Well of course that wouldn’t all happen but I would have made goal.

Did I ever tell you I’m a goal oriented type of person.  I like to ACHIEVE, which is probably why Weight Watchers works so well for me.

Anyway, so I’m about to get on the scale and I tell the receptionist that I think I might have it or will only be a few tenths away and she asks how tall I am and it turns out the last receptionist figured out my goal weight wrong and I’m really 3.6 pounds away.  Phew.

Say what?

I know, I know….I’m doing this for my health blah flippin’ blah.

So what’s one pound, right?  It’s nothing in the scheme of things, and I’m angry at myself for being angry.

I still got angry in spite of myself.  So I have to lose 2 more pounds instead of 1 pound to get to goal.  Big deal, right?

Well Weight Watchers may be all “BEYOND THE SCALE” now but guess what….That scale is still there and it still dictates when you are at goal and when you are at lifetime.

I want to be at freakin’ goal and I will get to freakin’ goal.

It’s just going to take me an extra week or two.  Let me tell you, when you get to the bottom of the barrel weight wise it is not that easy.

Italian Sausage and Peppers

Comments 8 Standard

Before I tried this I have to share with you all that I was extremely skeptical.  You see I am a huge sausage and peppers fan, and I just couldn’t see how turkey sausage could be anywhere near close to being as good as regular sausage.

How wrong I was.

turkey

I had picked this up at the store just to try it.  There are 5 of them and if you are counting Smartpoints they are only 4 points each.

Four. Smartpoints. Each.

That is a big bang for your Smarpoints buck.  Trust me, I am not one of those Weight Watchers who will eat something and act like it’s fabulous just because it’s low points or because you can eat a crap ton of it for low Smartpoints.

Nope, I’m a food snob thank you very much.  This is GOOD.

You can cut them up, and top rice or polenta with it:

sand2

You can put it on a bun with some Cape Cod chips for a 10 point dinner:

sand1

Oh, and one more thing.  The sauce from this is amazing so save it!  It is great on pasta or spaghetti squash!

Continue on for recipe!  You can make this in the Instant Pot (pressure cooker) or in your slow cooker.  I’ll include directions for both.  I count 5 Smartpoints for each link due to the saute in oil.

Food Find – Snack Attack!

Leave a comment Standard

There are times when you just gotta have a snack.  I don’t mean an apple, or a banana, or a bunch of celery sticks.

A SNACK.

Crunchy, salty goodness.

I have two favorites that work with well with my Weight Watcher’s Smartpoints.

Capture

Skinny Pop Popcorn – 3 SP a 4.4 oz bag

I know I can make my own, but it usually ends up being about 25 Smartpoints because have you ever made Popcorn with garlic infused oil?  Yeah,  it is amazing and something that I do every once in awhile, but that’s the thing – you can only do things like that once in awhile, not every night.

This gives me my fix for 3 Smartpoints and is really good.

cape

Cape Cod Chips – 4 Points a serving

I am still mad at Costco for not having my serving size individual bags of these anymore, but the big bag works too.  I bring the bag home and portion it out immediately into zip top sandwich bags.

For me this is an important step because they are seriously good and you would never guess they have 40% less fat.  I’m not a huge chips person, but when I get the craving I try to have these on hand.

A 30 Point Day – Running Crazy

Comments 2 Standard

So I’m a food prepper for sure – but sometimes things don’t work out and you have to use leftovers and other things on the fly to make sure you stay on program.

Breakfast – 7 Smartpoints

20170720_053125

No matter how crazy my day or week is one thing is for sure – I always make sure I have grab and go breakfast.  Growing up with parents who were from the south breakfast was an integral part of our culture.  One did not simply skip breakfast.  That was sacrilegious.

I have this Strawberry and Cream Overnight Oats recipe that is super good, but usually I go with a cup of plain, non-fat greek yogurt, 1/4 cups old fashioned oats, a dash of vanilla, a pinch of stevia, and whatever fruit I have on hand.  I make 3 of these on Sunday nights (they’ll stay good for 3 days) and then have the rest of the week to make the other two for the work week.

When you use the plain non-fat Greek yogurt you get a whole cup of the yogurt and the whole thing is only 5 Smartpoints!

This is my favorite breakfast during the week because it keeps me full until lunch.

premier

I also have to have my coffee and I use one bottle of Premier Protein (usually chocolate) as my creamer for 2 smartpoints.

Weigh In 7-22-17 – All the Feels

Leave a comment Standard

So I thought I had a tumor but it turns out it was a bone I haven’t felt in 15 years.  How was your week?

Oh, and I lost 2 more pounds.  After that 3 pound lost last week I thought for sure I’d have a very small one this week.

I. Am. Only. 2.6 Pounds. From. Goal.

I will then try not to lose weight.  What?

If I try and remember a time when I wasn’t at least thinking about my weight I’d have to go back to when I was 10 years old.  I was a horrible sleeper and my parents finally gave up trying to make me stay in bed, so I’d get up and watch TV in the middle of the night at least a couple times a week.

There was an infomercial on and they were talking about back fat.  I vividly remember reaching around and thinking that I might have that!  And it was Bad!  I was in 4th grade and weighed 69 pounds.  I remember that for obvious reasons.

Seriously in the 80’s kids new what that number meant and it being announced in front of everyone will scar you for life.  I wonder if they still do that to kids?

I think the average 10 year old is supposed to weigh like 75 pounds, so yeah, I didn’t have an inch of fat on me.

So most of my life I’ve thought about my weight or losing weight.  In the culture we live in I’m guessing that is the case for most females, if not males.  Do you all have similar experiences?

It feels weird to think about it, that I will be at the weight I want to be at.  It almost feels uncomfortable.

I’ll cross that bridge when I come to it I suppose.  Now I’m just going to power on to rid myself of those last 2.6 pounds.  I am expecting a stand still soon here, and that’s okay.  My body likes it’s fat and tends to hold on for a week or two before giving it up.  Two big losses like that in a row is a small miracle.

Oh, and I’ve received a ton of support from the Instant Pot Community on Facebook.  I received a ton of messages asking if I knew of a healthy recipe pressure cooker community.  I didn’t so I started one.  Please join if you are interested in healthy recipes for your pressure cooker!

Click here to join my new group!

Also I’ve gotten a lot of feedback that people really like my A Day in the Life – 30 Point Day, so I’m going to try and post a 30 point day each week.

Have a great week everyone!

One Pot Meal – Meatloaf and Mashed Potatoes

Comments 10 Standard

Sometimes you just need a little comfort.  That comfort can cost you in the waist line big time.  This is one of my favorite comfort meals, and it is so healthy!

I also make it with only one appliance .  My Instant Pot.  I’m always surprised by the lack of activity on the Weight Watchers social media platform Connect about the Instant Pot.  It is such a great tool and is probably one of the most important tools in my weight loss arsenal.

I always recommend reading a recipe first before even attempting it, but you really want to make sure you do that with this one.  This recipe makes 4 servings, but you could double it and not make the mini loaves.  I’ve never done it so I’m not sure on the timing, but I think your potatoes and carrots would be over done because you would need to lengthen the cooking time, and the carrots come out pretty soft as it is.

I like them that way, so be warned if you don’t!

This recipe will yield two mini loaves, 4 cups of mashed potatoes, and 4 – 4 oz servings of carrots.

Easy Healthy Tuna Casserole

Man, or Woman cannot live by lean protein and vegetables alone.  At least I can’t.  I need something with some substance, something that provides a bit of comfort every once in awhile.

I was inspired by this recipe for Cream of Mushroom soup on Skinnytaste, which is like my favorite cooking inspired blog/website.  I changed it up but had never tried making a cream based soup with the blending of flour and water.  It turned out to be a pretty cool technique!

Fish is probably the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to Smartpoints, so this is loaded with it!

I have to admit that this is going in my every once in a great while category because it was so good, so comforting, so delicious, that I wanted to eat more than I should.
